The Airlite technology is no gimmick.
It was developed originally in 2003, by leading scientists, and has been rigorously tested since; before its official launch this year. It has proven itself in some of the most heavily polluted areas of the world. Its efficacy in the Umberto Tunnel, in Rome, is there for all to see. After 10 years, Airlite is still reducing over 51% of the airborne Nitrogen Dioxide and the white coating looks as fresh and clean as the day it was applied.
Airlite - Breathe Easy
The air we share is compromised; the quality of the air we breathe has a dramatic impact on our health and longevity. According to the World Health Organization (W.H.O), over 3 million deaths a year are linked to poor air quality. Air pollution is now a global 'public health emergency’.
The UK currently has the second highest number of premature deaths in the EU caused by Nitrogen Dioxide, and is home to two of the most polluted roads in the world (Oxford Street and Marylebone Road).
What is meant by air pollution?
One of the most harmful groups of pollutants are the NOx gases — nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. These are caused mainly by motor vehicle traffic.
NOx gases adversely affect our health. Breathing them can negatively affect oxygen levels in the blood, as well as cause inflammation of the airways, allergies, bronchitis, and asthma attacks.
NOx gases are extremely bad for the environment too. They are responsible for the formation of smog, acid rain, and ground level ozone.
Air pollution indoors can be as deadly as air pollution outdoors.
We spend up to 80% of our lives indoors. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that the air inside our homes and the buildings we work in can be up to 100 times more toxic than the air outside.
Exposure to indoor air pollutants can be responsible for headaches, dizziness, nausea, eye, nose or throat irritation, cough, fatigue, allergies and asthma attacks.
Minimising common indoor pollutants can help keep you, your family and your workforce, healthy and symptom free.
What is Airlite?
Airlite is a new pollution absorbing paint technology that’s as powerful as nature itself. Using nothing more than natural light to activate its pollution busting properties, Airlite transforms the walls of any building – home, office, school, library, gym, hospital etc. – into an air purification system.
Airlite offers a natural solution for both outdoor and indoor pollution.
Airlite cleans the air around us. It needs NO electricity, motors, noise, filters, waste or upkeep, for it to continue absorbing air pollution.
Airlite is available as a paint in 180 elegant colours or a clear coating - which can all be applied to any building – both inside and out.
Airlite is 100% natural – it contains no nasty chemicals, is water soluble and VOC free.
Why is Airlite so special?
Airlite provides effective solutions to so many of the pollution issues facing us today:
- It eliminates up to 88.8% of air pollution:
It does this by neutralising nasties like nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide, so returning the air to its purest state.
- Using Airlite is like painting a forest in your living room:
Applying it on a surface of 100 m2 reduces air pollution as effectively as an area of 100 m2 planted with mature trees. It’s like choosing to plant a forest in your home and returning the air to its pure, pristine state — so you and your loved ones can breathe easily.
- It fights germs by eliminating 99.9% of bacteria and viruses:
The spread of super bacteria is another major health concern. These have developed due to the overuse of antimicrobial drugs used for humans and animals. These drug resistant superbugs are expected to be the main cause of death by 2050. There is an urgent need for alternative preventions and treatments. Laboratory tests show that Airlite is an effective weapon in the fight against these microbes as it removes 99.9% of airborne germs, including antibiotic-resistant superbugs. Its unique technology naturally disinfects and sterilises the space around it, creating healthier, safer environments.
- It repels dust and airborne dirt:
Airlite attracts water molecules in the air to create an invisible, protective film on the wall that blocks dirt from attaching.
Airlite painted surfaces stay as pristine as the day they were painted.
- It neutralises odours:
Traditional air-cleaning methods use expensive electrical devices like filters or ionizers to purify, or chemical-filled deodorants to mask odours. Because Airlite is water based, it is quick drying and produces no odour. Its invisible protective barrier also helps keep rooms smelling fresh as odours cannot attach to it, making it ideal for use in kitchens, gyms and hospitals.
- It prevents mould:
Airlite’s innovative antimicrobial protective barrier effectively blocks the growth of unsightly, potentially harmful moulds and microbes that can cause allergies, itchiness, headaches, fatigue, cough, asthma, and other breathing problems.
- It cuts energy consumption by up to 50% and which helps to lower CO2 emissions:
Airlite helps save energy costs. When applied to outside walls and roofs, it helps keep spaces cool, so saving energy costs, while protecting the environment. This is thinks to its high-reflectance that reduces the amount of solar heat absorbed by the building, which can dramatically lower air conditioning energy costs from 15%– 50%, which in turn lowers the associated CO2 emissions that cause climate change.
- Airlite cuts waste:
Thanks to its powder formulation, Airlite is always mixed on-site, in quantities sufficient for the job at hand, ensuring that waste is minimal.
How does Airlite work?
Airlite’s unique formula supercharges the natural activation between its compounds and natural light, neutralising pollutants and removing up to 88% of airborne toxic particles, as well as forming an invisible protective film that stops dirt and bacteria attaching to the wall. It’s why it is an effective solution to wide range pollution both inside and outside a building.
Where can Airlite be used?
Airlite improves the quality of air — and life — almost anywhere; for instance in:
- Public spaces
- Hotels, restaurants & bars
- Private homes
- Museums, galleries, monuments
- Smart cities
- Tunnels, parking garages
- General infrastructure
Airlite is a fully compliant, registered UK product, certified by BREEM.
Where has it been tested?
Since 2007 Airlite has been tested extensively in many highly polluted European locations, each time performing at a level that exceeded all expectations.
It has been used in the centre of the Umberto Tunnel in Rome – an extremely polluted location. The centre of tunnel was painted in Airlite in 2007, and measurements of the pollution levels within the tunnel, taken before and after. After 10 years, Airlite is still reducing the airborne Nitrogen Dioxide by over 51%. In addition, the walls remain bright white.
Subsequent global test sites, which include hospitals, schools and public buildings, have returned the same highly positive results, proving that Airlite is a product that is vital in the war against pollution.
What does Airlite cost?
Applying Airlite works out cheaper over the lifecycle of the product than other paints. Because of its unique 10 year warranty, more than double the normal maintenance cycle for other paints, it is very cost effective to use Airlite.
What colours is Airlite available in?
